Siegfried Lorenz founded the company in 1966 in Bad Bramstedt, initially producing various fiberglass products using manual laminates, cold press molding, and fiber spray upmolding. In 1973, production moved to Hopsten-Schale, and in 1978, Lorenz Kunststofftechnik GmbH was established. The company expanded its portfolio in 1979 to include painted wall panels made from SMC semi-finished products for the construction sector. In 1983, Lorenz Industrieanlagen was founded in Hopsten-Schale to provide mechanical engineering support for its own production. By 1985, the company began producing SMC semi-finished products for its own use and, in 1987, transferred semi-finished production to Wallenhorst, further developing SMC and BMC products for automobile suppliers, the electrical industry, and construction. In 1992, the company started selling recycled SMC/BMC materials, and that same year, Thomas Lorenz joined the business. The company transitioned to Thomas Lorenzโs leadership in 1996. In 2002, Siegfried Lorenz Industrieanlagen and Thomas Lorenz Industrietechnik merged to form Thomas Lorenz Industrietechnik GmbH & Co. KG. The company grew further with the acquisition of the SMC/BMC/CIC department from Sรผdwest-Chemie in 2004. In 2012, Thomas Lorenz introduced innovative products, including BMC 0204 and SMC 0208, which were the first BMC products on the market with UL 94 VO 0.4mm / EN 45545 certification. In 2020, they began producing natural fiber compounds, and by 2021, the company introduced groundbreaking lightweight SMC with a density of less than 1 and reusable carbon BMC products, marking their continued innovation in the industry.
